Reconnect With Your Inner Self

Thanks for showing interest in my work, as I am well aware it is not easy to reach out to professional support. Empathy and curiosity will be key components in our work while gaining more insight about yourself and overcoming the obstacles in the way to your goals.

Dr. Itay Kohane, Psy.D

My passion in the field of psychology began in competitive sports, after playing
basketball in high-school and finishing an Ironman race. Following eight years
of service in the Israeli Air Force as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, I moved to the
US to finish my doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
My clinical work began volunteering with Sudanese refugees in Israel. In the
US, I worked at substance abuse rehab facilities and then continued working
with children, adolescents, and families, focusing on trauma, depression, and
anxiety. Later, I worked at an LGBTQ+ and HIV+ center, as well as with the
elderly at assisted living facilities.
As part of my professional experience, I completed 3 years training in a
body-mind trauma-focused therapy — Somatic Experiencing. I also
received certification from MAPS for MDMA-Assisted Therapy, and
completed Attachment Focused-EMDR training to treat trauma and
PTSD. My doctorate research was about Infertility Challenges for
Orthodox Jewish Couples and had the privilege of interviewing this
population for the first time about this topic.
Currently, I have a private practice in Los Angeles and work as a
Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor for doctorate interns at a
substance abuse rehab for drugs and alcohol in Malibu. I see children
and adults, in individual, couples, and family settings.

Depression & Anxiety

Worrying about the future at times of uncertainty can lead to stress or hopelessness. Similarly, we may regret events from the past, which can be expressed as sadness, guilt, and shame. I will help in creating a resolution to past events, increase self-esteem, and teach ways to be more in the present through mindfulness.

Trauma

Events from the past can have an immense impact on the present. Trauma can manifest in many ways, such as mood, relationships, panic attacks, chronic pain, nightmares, and flashbacks. I specialize in preventing trauma from known danger (i.e. surgery), and resolve past trauma in a healing manner so you won’t have to continue live with it.

MDMA Assisted Therapy

This revolutionary treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, addiction and eating disorders is expected to be approved by the FDA by the end of 2024.

Somatic Experiencing ®

I completed 3 years of training in this body-mind approach used to resolve past trauma and regulate our body. See my article (click to download) “The Body Feels and Remembers“.

LGBTQ+

Using my experience in different centers, I offer validating and empowering
individuals, couples, and family therapy for people identifying with a variety
of sexual orientations, gender identities and forms of relationship.

Relationships

Humans are social beings. We define ourselves through interactions with others throughout our lives. This affects our relationships with family, friends, peers at work and intimate partners. I help individuals and couples in creating healthier and more satisfying lives.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Providing an effective way to heal persistent conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction and core beliefs that limit us in our daily life.

Children & Adolescents

The younger children are, the more apparent it is to view their emotions on their behaviors. They can be very affected by events that take place in the family and close environment. Adolescents experience challenges in their transition to adulthood, creating their own identity and interact independently with the world with much pressure. I will help resolving the distress and making these transitions safe and healthy.

Addiction

In this modern world, many seek an escape from unpleasant feelings or instant gratification, which can lead to addictive behaviors. However, this does not bring us to a resolution and often times reach to destructive patterns with the self and others. I will teach you healthier coping skills and help resolving past events that lead to these behaviors.

EMDR

Trauma treatment is mostly non-verbal. In this method we connect both hemispheres of the brain – the non-verbal and verbal, in order to process trauma, PTSD, anxiety and phobias.
