Reconnect with your inner self

Thanks for showing interest in our work, as we are well aware it is not easy to reach out to professional support. Empathy and curiosity will be key components in our work while gaining more insight about yourself and overcoming the obstacles in the way to your goals.

Dr. Itay KohaneHi, I’m Dr. Itay Kohane

My journey in psychology was inspired by my experiences in competitive sports, playing high-school basketball, and completing an Ironman race, where I developed an understanding of mental resilience and determination. After eight years as a Blackhawk rescue helicopter pilot in the Israeli Air Force, I transitioned to the US to earn my doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

I began my clinical journey volunteering with Sudanese refugees in Israel. In the US, I have worked in multiple dual diagnosis substance abuse rehab facilities, assisting adults and gaining invaluable experience with children, adolescents, and families affected by trauma, depression, and anxiety. My practice has also included work at an LGBTQ+ and HIV+ center, and with elderly residents at assisted living facilities.

I believe in the innate ability of human beings to heal. Through curiosity and exploration, in our meetings we will uncover your authentic self, fostering resilience and growth. I have completed three years of training in Somatic Experiencing, a body-mind trauma-focused therapy. Additionally, I am certified by MAPS for MDMA-Assisted Therapy for trauma and PTSD, and trained in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy for depression and anxiety, IFS (Internal Family Systems), as well as Attachment Focused-EMDR for trauma and PTSD.

My doctorate research explored the challenges of infertility among Orthodox Jewish couples, marking the first in-depth examination of this topic within the community. Currently, I lead a group private practice in Los Angeles, offering a wide range of specialties for children and adults in individual, couples, and family settings. I also serve as a Clinical Supervisor for doctoral and master-level therapists at a substance abuse rehab in Malibu.
